Lands Planning is responsible for developing strategic plans and policies for the sustainable long term use and development of land in the Northern Territory.
This is achieved through the investigation and analysis of growth trends, constraints, opportunities and land availability in consultation with key stakeholders such as community organisations, developers, landowners, residents, investors, business owners, visitors, built environment professionals and politicians.
Development Assessment Services (DAS) is responsible for the development assessment and control processes within the provisions of the Planning Act. DAS also provides professional advice and administration support to Government, the Development Consent Authority, industry and the community, on the use of land.
Public comment is sought on the Darwin CBD Master Plan Project, which has been funded by the City of Darwin, Northern Territory Government and Australian Government, under its “Liveable Cities Program”. The master plan will include spatial mapping, retail and landscape studies as well as an urban design audit and stakeholder workshops. It will draw on previous planning forums and parking and transport studies.

The Minister announced a new feature of the Development One Stop Shop: Development Applications (DAs) Online.
For the first time applicants will be able to prepare, lodge and pay for development applications online. By lodging online you have flexibility to lodge anytime, no longer have to provide paper copies of applications, and be able to make payments using a credit card over the phone (a tax invoice will be mailed to you) or over the counter.
During processing you will receive email notifications updating you on the progress of your development application. You will also be able to track the progress on line and view comments provided from service authorities; public submissions; and technical assessments prepared by planners. More Information.
